Concentrated Omega-3 Fatty Acids

How does Ideal Omega EPA boast 1000 mg of EPA and DHA in only one capsule? The answer is through the gentle concentration of fish oil during the manufacturing process. The two most important and Essential Long chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA) are Eicosahexaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) Omega-3s. Both have unique metabolic and structural roles in the body’s cells and cellular functioning. Alaska Pollock oil (like most fish oils) is a rich source of these EPA & DHA Omega-3 fats, but they are only present in fish oil made from fatty tissue at about 20-25% Omega-3 content. In order to reach daily-recommended intakes from international scientific experts such as ISSFAL and EFSA and only swallow a few capsules, they must be purified and concentrated.

What is Molecular Distillation?

Molecular Distillation has become a buzz word in the marketing of fish oil products. However, it is an advanced and effective technique for purifying edible fish oils. It effectively removes PCBs, other environmental contaminants, and fishy smelling aldehydes without damaging or destroying the delicate Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Through the removal of non-Omega-3 fatty acids (such as saturated fats), these Pollock fish oils are concentrated from their initial 20-25% Omega-3 content to as high as 85% total Omega-3s content.

Molecular distillation is extremely effective at removing Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) without damaging delicate Omega-3 Fatty Acids. PCBs, an environmental contaminant, have both manmade and natural sources. Minute trace quantities can be found in all fish oils globally. To meet the stringent European Union and the United States’ California Proposition 65 standards, oils must be distilled to remove PCBs.

This valuable fish-based resource represents a continued commitment to “using the whole fish” for the greenest possible solutions for the planet and is a respectful use of this valuable wild resource. Biodiesel reduces particulate emissions that cause smog, provides necessary lubrication to diesel engines and is a sustainable, cost-effective alternative energy source for transportation.
